Day 1 – Arrival Antigua
Upon arrival to the airport you will be met and transferred to your beautiful Antigua hotel.
Day 2 – Textile Day Trip Antigua & Villages
Today you will be met by our Textile Expert for a full day tour of Antigua and surrounding villages to learn about the famous Guatemalan Textiles (weaving techniques, natural dyes and symbolism) and to see the back strap loom method of weaving ongoing in Maya homes to this day.
Day 3 - Ixchel Museum and Azotea Coffee Farm & Maya Museums
This morning we head for the Ixchel Textile Museum in Guatemala City. Here you will learn about the history of textiles and the ongoing work of the museum to preserve this ancient craft. After lunch guests will be transferred back to the fabulous Azotea Coffee Farm & Maya Traditions Museums to enjoy some traditional music along with demonstrations of the local custumes & traditions.
Day 4 - Transfer to Lake Atitlan and visit Textile Cooperation
Today we venture to Lake Atitlan. On the way we will stop in Solola to visit a women’s textile cooperation. Here you will be shown the different weaving techniques etc. of the area before transferring on to your hotel at Lake Atitlan.
Day 5 - Chichi Market
Today we visit famous market at Chichi. There will be time for shopping in this fabulous craft market and an opportunity to see Maya rituals being performed in the Catholic Church. Then enjoy lunch in Chichicastenango before returning to your hotel.
Day 6 - Lake Tour
This morning we will take a scenic boat ride across Lake Atitlan (30min) to the village of San Juan La Laguna where you will visit the women’s textile cooperative to see hand weaving and the natural dye process. After lunch in a local restaurant you can visit the studios / homes of the celebrated naïf painters. From here our journeys continues to the village of Santiago where we will visit another textile cooperation. After the tour you will be transferred back to Antigua.
Day 7 – Depart Antigua
Today we bid you farewell as we transfer you to the airport for your flight.
